Printed Burlap

Check this stuff out – it’s SO cool!

Printed burlap at The Fabric Mill

I’ve been seeing all sorts of tutorials being pinned on Pinterest about how to print on burlap.  Well now you don’t have to bother with that because we have printed burlap.  Right now we have seven different prints:

damask leaf, scattered dots, Paris/Eiffel Towers, chevrons, rustic fleur de lis, mustaches, and tossed type.

Need some ideas on how to use these?  We’ve seen table runners, pillows, curtains, wreaths, Christmas stockings….  In fact, we’ve seen so many great ideas, we started a pinterest board just to collect great burlap ideas.  Check it out!  Oh and while you’re there, be sure to follow us!

Halloween!

Time to start thinking about Halloween projects (if you haven’t already!)  We have a variety of Halloween project tutorials and ideas available here on our blog.  See that “Handmade Halloween” button in the sidebar?  Click that and it will link you to any project/tutorial that is Halloween related!

We’ve got our display hutch stacked to the brim with even more Halloween ideas:

We make it easy for you – pillowcase kits are ready to go!

And we have the patterns to make this cute pumpkin wall hanging:

The pattern for this quilt can be found in the book from Adorn It that I wrote about here

And see the cute ruffle pillow that is leaning up against the bottom of the quilt?  That is also from the Adorn It pattern book and that pillow uses the leftover fabric from the quilt!  Such a clever design!

High Street

I’m going to show more of this line later but it’s just too pretty to miss.  I had to give you a sneak peek today!  This is High Street (Moda).  The bolts are out on the shelves and ready for your next gorgeous project.  These fat quarters are seriously calling my name.  I’ll have one of each please!

Boundary Water Flannels

As the weather turns colder, I start to use more flannels on my quilt backs.  This line of flannels from Moda just arrived in the shop:

The line is called Boundary Water Flannels and it’s full of rich, autumn shades.  These are just begging to be included in your next fall project.

Book Spotlight: Adorn It Capri Pattern Book

We have so many great books available here at the Fabric Mill, and many of our shop display quilts are made using patterns from those books.  I thought I’d shine a spotlight on one of those great books today.

This is the Capri Pattern Book from Adorn It

capri book 1

It’s full of fun ideas and cute patterns!  I recently used two of the patterns in this book: the "Modern Capri" quilt and the "Rows of Ruffles" pillow (both made with Halloween fabrics, and now on display at the shop.)  They turned out so cute and were so easy to make!

Their version of the ruffle pillow is shown below, using fabrics from their Capri line.  It’s much easier than it looks!

I’m thinking of trying this cute apron next – maybe using some Christmas fabrics:

And here’s one more of the projects from the book – such a cute quilt!

Have you already made something from this book or another book from our shop?  We would love to see it!  Send me an email (fabricmillblog@gmail.com) or share it on our facebook page!

The Cat in the Hat 2

cat in the hat 2

Everyone’s favorite Dr Seuss character is back!  Cat in the Hat 2 is new in the shop and ready to liven up your next project.

See the red/white and black/white stripe?  Those make really fun bindings.  I’ve even used the red stripe as a border to an I Spy quilt.  It added just the right amount of pizzazz.

Right now Robert Kaufman has a free quilt pattern available.  It was originally designed for the previous Cat in the Hat fabrics, but it’s easy to swap them out for the new fabrics.  Download the pattern, print it out and bring it in to the shop.  We’ll help you select the fabrics you need!  See you soon!

Here Fishy Fishy

fishy fishy 2

Here Fishy Fishy is the newest fabric line from Heather Mulder Peterson.  It’s full of whimsical charm.  I really love the houndstooth prints (available in gray and orange) and the waves (in blue and green).  And the dots and chevron prints would be so versatile too!

Posh Pumpkins Project

Posh Pumpkins project

We’ve recently changed some of our displays to reflect the upcoming season.  Is everyone ready for fall, back-to-school time and Halloween?  We are!  One of our new display items is this quick and easy project using Posh Pumpkins (Moda).

The pattern is called “Peak Color”.  It makes a 27” x 29” mini quilt that you could use as either a wall hanging or table topper.  I love it because it’s not specifically for Halloween or Thanksgiving, so you really can use it from September all the way through to the end of November.

Peak Color Pattern

Here at the shop we have the patterns, charm packs and other necessary fabrics for you!  I was able to get the quilt top done in about 90 minutes.  Honestly, the most time consuming part of the project was cutting out the twelve circles but that can be done while watching your favorite movie.

Stop by the shop and get everything you need to get started on this cute fall project!  See you soon!

By the way, we love to see the projects you make!  Share something you've made using fabrics from our shop -- send it through email (fabricmillblog@gmail.com) or on facebook page!
